President's Letter

By Christopher Winton-Stahle, President, ASMPCV

Christopher Winton-StahleServing on the board of directors for our ASMP chapter has been one of the most rewarding experiences I've had as a professional photographer. I can confidently say that without this organization, I would not be successful in this profession. Thanks to the tools that ASMP provides, the strong bonds I have made with other ASMP members and the wisdom I've acquired as a leader in this chapter, I've grown into a stronger businessperson and overall leader. It is because of this wonderful experience, that I would like to encourage all good standing General Members to consider a leadership role in ASMPCV.

There will be two new seats available on the board this year. If you are interested in a spot on our board, please contact us at board@asmpcv.com

Please remember that ASMP belongs to us all. Each member is a vital part of this organization and each of you has a voice in determining where we go as a chapter. What do you want to see happen with your ASMP? What kind of programs do you want to see brought to our area? What makes this organization valuable to you? These are important questions. With your answers and service, we can make ASMPCV an even better organization.

Every ASMPCV member is welcome to attend our board meeting, share their ideas, voice their opinions and help us make decisions for the future. We are having our annual board retreat on January 28th, where we will make program decisions for the next year. If you are interested in attending, please contact me directly at chris@winton-stahle.com

Stepping away from the leadership discussion, you should know that we have two upcoming events. On January 12th we will host a 4X15 members meeting where we’ll enjoy the work of ASMPCV chapter members, Scott Brown, Matt Licari, Paul Purpura, and Dave Doody. Please come out and share the evening with us!

On February 23rd we will host a program with internationally known aerial photographer, Cameron Davidson. In addition to sharing work from his new book, Chesapeake : The Aerial Photography of Cameron Davidson, he will discuss how photographers should think about and plan long-term projects.

We look forward to seeing you at our next two events!

Keith Lanpher had a very busy Fall working with Distinction magazine on several projects that included a fashion shoot at Fort Monroe and a week long project on Long Island for Capital One. December found him on the beach shooting stills and video for Virginia Tourism. He recently returned from a week-long editorial shoot in Charleston. On a personal note, Keith has just completed a time lapse of Norfolk's light rail system that can be viewed on Vimeo.

Chip Mitchell just completed photography on an ad campaign for Dominion Power's "Energy Share" program.

Elli Morris is happy plugging along on art, portrait and some commercial photography.

Paul Purpura is still shooting news, sports, and other events around Nelson County. Paul recently discovered a great app for the iPad2 and iPhone called "Release Me". It contains a standard model release, which the model can sign electronically and forward to any e-mail address.

Roberto Westbrook’s wife, Mary, gave birth to a baby boy on November 28th. Two days later he was shooting for Johnson Controls at Greensville Correctional Facility, home to Virginia’s execution chamber. He also shot his first paid video project and completed several assignments for ODU’s alumni magazine.

Christopher Winton-Stahle was awarded VCU's primary advertising campaign for the "Our Time Right Now" campaign and has photo-illustrated images that will be seen on billboards and bus ads throughout 2012. He and his team are very excited about new growth and embarking on new technologies that include CGI, motion graphics, and video. He are partnering with several other companies in these new ventures and have a brand new series of marketing pieces going out.
